Tommy Joe Mote was born in Durant, OK on August 1, 1980. His passion was riding dirt bikes and working on cars, even taught his kids to be fanatics just like him lol. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with diabetes at the young age of 11. In late July of 2012 he contracted the West Nile Virus, he was then care flighted to OKC and put on a ventilator. He was the second person in Bryan County and the first to survive the West Nile Virus but unfortunately when he woke up, he was left with several life changing medical issues. He went blind, had congestive heart failure and kidney failure on top of diabetes. He has fought very hard these last 12 years and has lived longer than most doctors expected him to live. He has not had an easy life by any means, by the young age of 44 he has had almost 60 different surgeries. He fought hard all the way to the end when he decided to go into hospice care. He was a devoted patient of Dr. V. Khetpal’s and made many friends at the DaVita Dialysis center here in Durant.
He left this earth peacefully surrounded by his wife, kids, grandkids and father. We are saddened by his passing and will miss him every day. He was such a kind person and never met a stranger. If you feel it in your heart to donate anything towards his funeral, his children and the rest of his family greatly appreciate it. If you are unable to donate, please just keep the family in your prayers as they go through this devastating time.
