The Word. That is Leigh Suzette Long. She loved Him. Being mentally challenged drew her closer to Him. She believed in the Lord. She believed He would take her sorrows and pain away. The scoliosis caused her to walk with a limp, but that didn’t stop her participation in sports as the greatest and most dedicated fan. As a fan she cheered for local and professional teams. Leigh dreamed of being a cheerleader! She even had pom-poms, and pretended in her room. She attended games for her high school and local university games. Football was her favorite. See, she can’t play because of chronic asthma and disabilities. Instead, she enjoyed puzzles, puzzle books, coloring books, and watching Dora. She also attended Grace Indian Baptist Church, and occasionally First Baptist Church. Leigh loved vacation bible school, and even volunteered to help with the little ones. And she loved watching pro wrestling, believing it was real. She loved popcorn like her poppa. Even with ulcerative colitis, she loved eating popcorn at the games. Being a diabetic didn’t stop her love for eating. Especially Sunday supper at church. As a child she lost her dad. Later she lost her mom. She’s always lived with ganny and poppa until their death. She also lived with Aunt Laura, who was a mother figure to Leigh. Her speech impediment caused her to call her Aunt Wawa. Leigh never had a drivers license, and was never allowed to date though she like the boys! The poor thing wore orthotic shoes. She would get so excited when her younger brothers bought her something. Her brother Todd even took her to see the Texas Rangers baseball game shortly before his death. She lost her younger brother, Vance, this past January. Both passed within the last year and a half. Leigh’s younger brother, Vince, is the only brother left. She truly loved her pets, Harley and Missy, her cats, and Westside, a stray we let her take into her home. Her home health nurse became her best friend. She absolutely loved everyone! She prayed for those that treated her unkindly. On her last day at the hospital, we told her that if she’s happy, we’re happy. Somehow, she knew she was leaving us. She even called the funeral home! And also ordered her dress. She took care of us, instead of us taking care of her. She truly missed those who had passed before her. Anyone could look at her Facebook and see what a special, and truly pure soul she was. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Leigh was an amazing child, even at 52. She is loved by so many, and will be greatly missed. Thank you.

One of the sweetest little ladies I have ever met. I only had the pleasure of meeting her a handful of times, but each time it was like the world was a little brighter.

Leigh was such a nice person. My mother Phyllis Kelly was her teacher in Music class at Durant Middle School and always had fondness for her. We are praying for peace and comfort for her family and friends in this time of grief. Leigh is in a wonderful place with her Lord and Savior!
