Eric C. “Pete” Petersen, 46, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, in Rock Island, Illinois.
A private family visitation will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Eric Christian Petersen was born on October 14, 1975 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Bruce E. and Patricia L. (Bock) Petersen. He was a 1994 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He married Erin Heinzel on September 4, 2004 at the Heinzel Family Farm in rural Maquoketa. Two children were born to this union, Ava Marie and Caleb David.
While in high school “Pete” had been employed at Pizza Hut in Maquoketa and then later as a cook at the Decker Hotel and Restaurant in Maquoketa and Billy and Me in Davenport. Most of his working life though was centered around working as a heavy equipment operator and being a member of the Local Union #234.
“Pete” was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. He loved fishing, being in nature, and was an avid collector of rocks. He acquired a love for cooking and won the “Lasagna Contest”. He also loved all animals, but Harvey and his “cat-dog” Monti aka Monkey were his favorites.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ava Petersen of Maquoketa, IA, and Caleb Petersen of Maquoketa, IA; his mother and step-father, Pat and Ron Keitel of Maquoketa, IA; his father and step-mother, Bruce and Lori Petersen of Lost Nation, IA; sisters, Amy Petersen of Dubuque, IA, and Sarah (Mike) Jackson of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 nieces and 2 nephews; and numerous half and step-siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death his maternal grandparents Harold and Lois Bock, and paternal grandparents Elmer and Evelyn Petersen.
