“Our Brother, Eddie Ray Fulton”
Eddie was the eldest child of our mother and resided with our grandmother. Consequently, our encounters with him were infrequent, yet our mother consistently spoke of him with great affection. We were uncertain whether he was a real person or merely a figment of imagination. However, we eventually discovered that we had an extraordinary brother when our mother decided to relocate us to Michigan, where Eddie was living at that time. One day, after returning from school, our mother gathered us and announced that our older brother was coming to take us to Michigan. True to her word, Eddie arrived that weekend, and our joy was immense. Employed by General Motors, Eddie drove Cadillacs, allowing us to experience the pleasure of riding in luxury. We took immense pride in referring to him as our "Big" brother. Later, we moved to East St. Louis, Illinois, and Eddie frequently visited, particularly during the Christmas season. As I transitioned into adulthood, there were occasions during his visits when Eddie and I would frequent nightclubs in the city. Many patrons mistook him for Tyrone Davis, a renowned blues singer from Chicago, and Eddie relished the attention, often taking the microphone to perform for the audience. His dancing skills were remarkable. I will forever cherish the memory of my brother, Eddie Ray Fulton, a true giant among men.
Until we meet again, brother, I love you and will always hold you in my heart.
Your sister, Mary Mabry-Suttle.
